Wrangler Jeans advertisement

One of America's main ideologies is the belief that woman are inferior to men and are just there for enjoyment and to control. This is mainly portrayed in today's media and pop culture. An advertisement for Wrangler Jeans featured an array of different womens acting in animal-like ways while sporting the jeans. Each advertisement is marked with the quote, "We are animals". One ad shows a woman's body floating in water wearing the jeans. Another is a woman's drenched inert legs in the jeans lying in the dirt. Most the photos depict women being savage animals in the woods caught on camera.

How this will attract customers is questionable. I believe that the Wrangler company is trying to say that customers that have a rough and tumble sort of life can depend on Wrangler jeans because they're tough and durable enough. To me the ads tells me if I wear wrangler jeans, I'll turn into some crazy she-beast that roams in the woods. Have they crossed a line? Most would say yes. However just like in regular media, the women in the advertisement are depicted as objects to make a sale. Many may argue that the ads present violence against women but I don't see it. Others also may think that the women in these ads are dead but they are very much alive. While one of the ads shows only the back of a woman in the water if you look closely her head is up and floating. She's an animal waiting in the water.

Why should women be depicted as savage animals in this ad? Last time I checked, men wore jeans too. And the way manner in which Wrangler decided to show these women was very risky. Lots of fashion followers were hurt and grossed out by the ads. And instead of saying "We are Animals" the ads says more along the lines of "You women are animals". This ad is way far from portraying women's sexiness, they've crossed that lined and pretty much showed that women are savage, uncivilized, animals.
