Sharing the Wealth at a Dumpster Divers’ Feast

According to the New York Times, there is a group of friends from Brooklyn that get together every other weekend for a gathering called "Grub". Now that is nothing out of the ordinary but the way that they obtain the gathering's food is.. different. They roam through the streets, turning trash into treasure, going through garbage bags and collecting food for the communal dinner. The food is always safe though, usually in bags from restaurants. The gathering, Grub, is meant to "promote camaraderie". Every time they get together on the roof top, they meet someone new because after greetings, they are told to talk to someone they've never met before.
I think this kind of gathering among friends and strangers is a great idea because it really does promote camaraderie. All kinds of people of different colors and different backgrounds get together for a cheap but delicious meal, meeting someone they probably would've never met. I like that the group in Brooklyn consisted of all kinds of people. and I wish there was something like this in my area. Not only to promote camaraderie but to show that even though we come from all walks of life, we can get together for a recycled meal and get to know one another. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/28/nyregion/28metjournal.html?no_interstitial&emc=Google-Earth

The teamwork these people have is amazing. They share something that others often take for granted, whereas we are greedy when it comes to something as simple as school supplies. As more expensive products are released, we are getting greedier and greedier. They easily share something with complete strangers, and it shows me how selfish we are becoming. The fact that these people can all gather and share each other's findings with one another is admirable.
