Love the Way You Lie

The song "Love the Way You Lie" by Eminem, featuring Rihanna, shows how domestic violence in our society impacts the people in abusive relationships. This song provides a clear image of how men and women feel when they are in an abusive relationship. It tells us how it would be like to be in an abusive relationship, often how it can just be a vicious cycle. "Love the Way You Lie" tells us about domestic violence in our society today and how it affects both women and men, showing how difficult it is to leave or stay in an abusive relationship. This definitely agrees with the typical stereotype of men who abuse their significant others; they abuse them, they apologize, and the abuse starts over again. It is saying that America both cares about domestic violence and may be trying to stop it, and letting the American population know that there are women out there who are being abused everywhere and cannot seem to get out of it.

In this song, there are two speakers, Rihanna and Eminem; the battered girlfriend and the abusive boyfriend. Rihanna's part is saying that even though her boyfriend is beating her, and she knows he is lying when he says he won't beat her again, it can be hard to leave someone you love. Eminem is saying that he loves her and he is sorry but he at the same time he says that he was never sorry for a second, he just wants her to stay with him.

This song will change the way people look at domestic violence, it will make people in abusive relationships stop and think about the situation that they are in and if it is really what they want for their lives. Throughout the song, Eminem is saying how he constantly hits her and when she is about to leave him he wants her back again. He says if she tries to leave, he might get angry and hit her again; "Next time I'm pissed/ I'll aim my fist at the dry wall/Next time/ There will be no next time/ I apologize." By this, he is saying how most men will say they will never hit their significant other again, but then they go back and start the same routines again. During the last verse, he goes between saying it was his fault, both of their faults, and just her fault that their relationship is the way it is.

Most of us like songs because they sound good or are just plain catchy. This song in particular is sending a message to all of us. I agree that its telling people to watch out and think about the type of relationship their in. This song isn't just well known but some how it's giving teens a heads up and I've always known what the song was about but reading this made me realize that people actually go through it and can really relate to the song.

hey karlie i really like that song but in your first paragraph, you repeated yourself alot. you kept talking about how being in an abusive relationship can be to people. yet you showed how some men can be very confusing in an abusive relationship when they want women to stay but at the same time they hate them and love them. i like how the song you chose is mostly heard by younger audiences which helps society grow on something as serious as an abusive relationship.

Abusive relationships are wrong, and I think that this song truly does state the problem with them. Someone gets hurt, the abuser says they're sorry and they won't do it again, and yet the cycle continues. This song sends awareness of domestic violence. It's great that we can hear both sides of the story through the song. Usually all you hear is the victim's side. However, I don't know how I feel about Rihanna coming out and singing this song. Her abusive relationship with Chris Brown had just ended at least a year ago.

I really appreciate music, especially the ones that are sending a message. Many songs on the radio HAS no meaning to it with just a catchy beat but this song has meaning and is nice to listen to. Domestic Violence in relationships are happening all over the world and this song is giving teenagers a heads up and making them think twice before getting into any relationship.
