Judge Orders Protection for Wolves

According to the New York Times, a judge ruled that gray wolves in Montana and Idaho must be treated the same as the gray wolves living in Wyoming. The gray wolves are Endangered species and are protected by the federal Endangered Species Act. The wolves in Wyoming were being protected by the act, but before the ruling the wolves in Montana and Idaho were not. Judge Donald W. Molloy thought that it was unfair for wolves in Wyoming to be protected and not in the other two states. Judge Molloy said that wolves can be endangered wherever they are within the range. Many ranchers and hunters opposed to the protection of the wolves since they are in fact predators. Originally, the wolves in Wyoming were to be taken off the endangered species list as the other two states, but the rule was legally blocked. There were around five hundred wolves in Montana and about eight hundred in Idaho after last fall's hunting season. Personally, I believe in protecting all animals who deserve to be protected so I completely agree with this. It makes me happy to know that these wolves are being protected to the best of the states' ability.

It is always sad to see when animals are endangered, but it is always great to see when they are protected. These wolves deserve to be protected just like any other animal. I actually did not know that gray wolves were endangered, which was sad to find out. Those states should protect those wolves as best they can.
