The Civil Rights Movement

The civil rights movement inspired many other movements of our generation. Today we still have racism today but there has been much of progress in the last few decades. Today in society racism a frowned upon and not looked as a progressive way of thinking. the civil right started with the idea that all Americans should be treated equal no matter one color of there skin. With that idea things started to move. the first major event what showed America that we needed to change, was the The events in Birmingham when children ran threw the streets and walked threw the line were blacks and whites were separated. They protected and were thrown into jail in groups. later the president had to jump in and make a announcement about what happened and suggested that segregation needs to end. After that many Other events followed like the march to Washington which was a major and conic move towards civil rights.

Martin Luther King practiced non violent protests to have equal rights amongst blacks and whites. He stressed the fact that he was not about violence or city riots. Even though there were some activist like Malcolm X who were pro violence and even promoted the fact the blacks should take affirmative action "By any means necessary." There were also freedom Riders who lit buses on fire. The civil rights movement was a huge success for the black community in America.

The civil right movement inspired many other movement in the future. The Farm worker union what wanted fair wages and better conditions for the workers and they used the same tactics that Martin Luther king used. Know in today society because the the civil right people are fighting for same sex-marriage and equal rights.
