Do you really need THAT?!

According to the NY Times, a 54 year old man (name witheld) has his life controlled by his hoarding obsession. His compulsive disorder has had him collect things he thinks he might not need now, or later. The organization Part of the Solution, had help from Kristen P. Berfeld and her company, Berfeld's Estate Clearance Service, helped the man clear his apartment of the junk that had collected for two decades.
Five workers spent two days riding the apartment of moldy sofas, folded tables, and filled 350 trash bags. The found an old bicycle buried under a mound of apple juice bottles, roasting pans, and beach chairs. Even after 45 minutes, they could finally open the front door completly for the first time in years. He tried to get help five years ago from the Adult Protective Services, but after a day of seeing his priced item being thrown out, he locked himself in and started to regrow his mountains. But this time, he said he was ready. At the end of the day on Tuesday, he stood in his spacious living room, the walls needed painting and the bathroom fixed, but for the first time in decades, he was proud of his home.

Woah nelly that dude was in need of some help... Great post it informed me of how some people still hold on to things either after they are of no use or they think they will be of use soon. I was shocked when i read that it took 45 minutes just to fully open his door. I learned that people's obsessions with things can get overwhelming.

I never knew why people decided to keep things that will have no use to them. Some people have even kept thing like old food and wrappers. Two decades is a long time to be collecting all that stuff. Those five workers were probably working hard to finish it in two days! I don't think I could ever let my house get like that.
