Wall-e and our Future

As soon as WALL-E came to theaters in 2008, it became a huge hit. Not only is it entertaining, but it also addresses three major issues in our society today. Technology, pollution, and obesity all pose as serous threats especially in the U.S. Although technology has helped many people, at some point we need to ask the question how much is too much. In the movie technology has become so much of our daily lives that we hardly know how to do anything besides surf the web. Despite it being a cartoon, it holds a scary possibility of what may happen in the future if we allow these problems to continue.

Wall-e is a robot whose purpose is to clean up our world. All of the people left the planet after it became so polluted that we were no longer able to live there. One day a robot named Eve goes to the planet to look for signs of life. That’s were Wall-e and Eve meet, eventually falling in love. After finding a plant, Eve returns to the Axiom. The Axiom is a giant space ship where all of the humans live. Wall-e goes to the Axiom in hopes that he will find Eve again. While he is there, the audience gets a glimpse of how life is like in the future.

In the future, technology has taken over, and robots do absolutely everything. Humans have become so dependent on technology that they no longer walk or talk to others face to face. Because of this the humans have become overweight and their bone mass has decreased exponentially. Although not as drastic, the U.S. is certainly known for its overweight people, reliance on technology, and pollution. This has lead me to believe that the future shown in Wall-e might not be that far off from are own future.

In this clip you can see how the future is portrayed in WALL-E.

Wall-e was a great example of what people are getting themselves into. People don't know it but every thing they do affects there life. If people keep up bad eatting habits obesity will be occuring everywhere.Like you said "technology has taken over." it ended with the humans being so lazy that they didn't even get up from there chairs. Are world as we know it will change if we keep up all our bad habits.

Wall-e is such a good example of our society because we are digging ourselves into a giant hole. This movie states so many possibilities that could happen to us in the future, like Shana said, technology, pollution, and obesity are the three big factors. We rely so much on technology that it will soon own our lives. Our future could possibly turn out like this and it is getting out of hand. A little hard work and dedication, and we can recover Earth.

This is so true Shana! I think about this a lot. I've never seen Wall-e but from reading this I now understand what the movie is about. Its sad that we always have to rely on appliances to help us get through our daily lives. Pretty soon humans arent going to have to do anything, and i think we should try and stop this.

This is very true. If us as humans dont do something about the way we live, technology will take over and Wall-e will definitely become reality. Enough is enough but major industries dont seem to get that.

Yea this is very true, good point Shana. lots of us today are really dependent on technology. Especially like the cell phone and oof course what were on all the time like Facebook. I like your topic!

I may not be the first to say this but, it's true. The movie portrays the future quite well not only because we relied on technology so much but how we are coming closer to that point in time. Your project made sense that we have 3 major world problems right now. The poor is getting poor and the rich is getting rich. I have to ask though, what would happen if there wasn't enough space for all the people to fit in. Do you think that if there were people that was just left on the planet to rot? I believe so, and it bothers me to wonder where does the food supply come from? This major problem is now being shown to little kids and is sending them a message to be green and clean(Ha ha catchy slogan).

I dint know about this. I mean, people have been predicting disaster for a long long time. 50 years ago they were saying it would be like what we're saying it'll be like 50 years from now. Until it happens, I won't worry about it. I personally think technological advances can only be good for us. JMO though.

This post is very true. If we keep relying on technology like we are then eventually the story of Wall-e will be true. We need to concentrate on the 3 major problems listed and try to make technology not a big part of our daily lives. If it does come to us leaving on a giant space ship though it might be a fun and entertaining trip while it lasts :D

This could very well be the future for the world. lots of obese people out there. People should take care of their trash and eat right. But im also not gonna tell people to eat healthy because I dont wanna be a hypocrit. The world, particulary america, needs to work on the three problems listed. All in all a good analysis review.
