Seventeen Speaks

Americas dominate ideology is the belief that to be beautiful you need flawless makeup, perfect hair and a good body. People follow this trend of fashion because they are being told "this makeup is what will make you look beautiful." I believe that because people read these magazines, they are focusing all of there energy to look just like the people on in Seventeen Magazine. People want to dress, act, and be someone they're not. Seventeen Magazine shows people in order to look pretty, you need to be skinny, with great hair and makeup.

Seventeen magazine is a magazine typically made for teenage readers. They give you a number of ways to style you're hair, apply makeup, and dress yourself for school. They give a large number of different clothing styles. Different styles would include, chic, grunge, or cute. This magazine also includes interviews with famous celebrities, or advice to help you.

In the issue of October 2010, seventeen magazine states, "Beat the hair blahs with one of these fun styles!" (Seventeen 76) This quote is saying, you're hair is not fabulous. They're saying that without the styles they listed on the page, you're hair is ugly and unworthy of attention. However if you use their styles with the products listed on the page, you're hair will become flawlessly beautiful. So my biggest point, is Seventeen magazine is telling young adults that to be pretty, you must do all of these things. Can you not be pretty with your own clothes and own fashion? Why do people have to look this way to be pretty? In my opinion, it's very shallow.

I agree that most magazines, comercials, and well thier all advertisments patray a girl to be young beutiful, fawless, with a nice body, unfortunately not every girl is like that. Some girls can't show off their beuty because of religious purposes. Sometimes by reading and seeing how other girls are make you feel like you have to be like them. And then you try to be someone your not.Everyother girl is preetier without make up so they should stop saying you have to wear make-up because their isnt anything mor gorgeous then a girl with no make-up aka natural beauty. They should start showing different types of nationalities, and sizes in magazines to make everyone comfortable with how they look.

I agree that most magazines are trying to make it so that you have to have a certain type of look and style and shape although it also depends on the way the reader looks into it. I'm saying that if you want to do your hair a certain way or makeup a certain way from a magazine for yourself and to make yourself happy then I'm all for it but if your just trying to impress others by doing this then that's probably not a good thing, but all in all I think that all this should be taken to a certain extent.
