Last Day?!?!

Today Britney and I got to the Don Edwards Refuge around 12:30. Of course I drove :P. We went early to set up everything for the event. We set up the tables and had to hang a banner, well more like tie down the banner. It was for the Endangered Species Poster Contest that the refuge puts on every year. When putting up the banner Mark taught me how to do a blood knot. After practicing five times I finally got it!! Thank goodness. And we had two activities set up for the kiddies. One was making a clapper rail and the other was creating a salt marsh harvest mouse. Both are very endangered species. Britney and I basically worked with the little kids making the clapper rails just because those demanded more precaution. All the little kiddies were very excited to color the bird picture and cut it out so Britney and I could help them put it together. All of them did a great job and made some of them very very colorful. And after that activity had calmed down the kids went on a walk through the marsh to learn some information. And Ryan had finally gotten to the refuge to help. So since all the kids were out on their walk we went and took a picture on the air boat together. When we were walking to the air boat we witnessed fence lizards doing push ups. That was cool because Ryan and Britney had never seen it before. And after we took pictures on the air boat we started taking things down. So we took down the steps to go into the air boat and then we went back to the visitor center. We put together all the supplies and and took them down stairs. And I wasn't allowed to lift any of the tables so I took the chairs down stairs and then Britney and I took the banner down. And after that it was 3:30 and time to go home! It was an awesome day getting to hang out with the kids who drew the posters and talk to them about the environment. :)

You had a lot of work to do. Your experience was with kids just like mine though. We both had to create things to involve the kids more. Your seemed a lot more complicated than mine did. I had to color an eater egg. Looking up at your picture you had to put things together and color a lot of differect parts. It is good that you are so into your volunteer activity because i did one that i did not like and the day just seemed to keep dragging on and on. It is also amazing how many hours you put into helping out the enviornment. I wish that i went to a more exciting place like you did. It makes me want to go down and help out now.

A great way to volunteer is to give back to the environment. It's refreshing to know small things like walking through the marsh or coloring animal pictures help educate others about the environment. The effort and time you, Britney, and Ryan put into setting up a great event for these kids is just thoughtful. I'm pretty sure that after attending this event, these kids will have a better perspective of how important it is to take of the environment and all the living things in it.

What you did was really great! Your job sounded so busy and challenging! Not only did you have fun, but the kids you worked with is too. It's really big of you to reach out and be a part of that. Also, I think it's great that you are not only doing community service, but you are helping the environment too! All the things you saw sounded really cool. I would be interested to volunteer here sometime just for the fun of it!

Volunteering to help little kids is amazing. Even though you worked really hard, it all paid off. Doing artwork that is centered around protecting endangered species really helps them understand that poor animals are in danger. When you volunteer to this type of cause, it really shows that teens are contributing to the community and it brings smiles to peoples faces. Especially when you make volunteering fun and enjoyable.

It really is thoughtful of you, Britney, and Ryan to help out with an event like this. I think when thinking about community service, the environment kind of gets overlooked but it shouldn't because its just as important as any other cause. Its really cool how you guys help educate them with arts and crafts. It's definitely a more fun way to learn something. I know when I was younger, having to do something hands-on helped me learn things a lot faster. I like how your volunteering reflects the problem you discussed for last semester's final. That just shows how much time and effort you put into this. Good job on your guys' volunteering throughout this project!
