J'ouvert Carnival

According to the New York Times, this past Labor Day weekend in Brooklyn, New York's Caribbean neighborhood was the 'J'ouvert' Carnival. The annual festival was a bittersweet celebration of life, rara music and also remembering the Haiti Earthquake eight months before. The three-day party was filled with Haitian rara music and dancing folk. Every year, the carnival showcases up and coming rara music bands. The music gave the New York-Haitians a sense of home. Rara music has blown up in New York, especially after the Haitian tragedy. This year's party was even more dear and special because of the Haiti Earthquake in January of 2010. The festival went on from morning to night all three days. I think that this carnival was interesting because of the recent disaster. The party brought New York-Haitians together to remember the casualty when they couldn't be at home.

I've heard about the J'ouvert Carnival and I hope one day I can visit to hear the rara music bands. I speak French and I know that Haitians do as well, obvious because of the carnival's name, so that would be interesting. I like how the Haitians of New York can celebrate life and their culture, with all thats happened to Haiti in the past year. I can;t believe it was almost eight months ago because I still hear about their suffering. It shows how strong of a people that they are, being able to smile with all the tears they've shed over the earthquake.
