The Past in the Present

There are no lessons learned among the Civil Rights Movement, although there were some successes like:
                Civil Rights act of 1957
                Civil rights Act of 1964
                24th Amendment
Voting Rights Act of 1965
Civil Rights Act of 1968
Because there was no lessons learned, America still struggles with equity and equality till this day. For example, immigrants. All they want is a better life full of opportunities. Yet they are denied that by laws or by others.
In Arizona a law passed that scared all immigrants. This law allowed authorities to stop one if they are suspected of being an illegal immigrant. They are then asked for their papers to prove they are citizens. If they don’t have anything of the sort the would be arrested, imprisoned then deported. It was bad enough with out that because illegal immigrants don’t get the same benefits as citizens.  That’s not any were near equity.
If one stops to think about it about this issue, one would realize that they work harder than any other. For example  farm workers. It is estimated that  5% of the US  that work as a farmers  are illegal immigrants.  They spend six days a week, ten hours a day in blazing heat with harsh conditions trying to make a living and yet they dont receive the same benefits like:
                Health Care
                Health insurance
                Retirement
                Pensions
In conclusion there is no equity or equality yet. This is only one of the many issues out there regarding equity and equality.

I like your different view on the lessons learned. I respect your opinion, but I do believe we have learned something; we have learned how to fight without violence. Let's hope the Mexican-Americans in Arizona, California, Nevada, and New Mexico, will join eachother and fight the immigration law. But, we have taught ourselves how to use our first amendment to petition our government. The immigrants can try to over rule this. Learning to assemble peacefully and use all resources such as the youth is now common knowledge. We have learned, just not as much as we wanted to. I still have some faith in humanity that we will, one day.

I liked how your first sentence caught my attention and I wanted to read the whole post after that. You took a topic that we learned about and used a different example that what we talked about in class which is good. Overall your post got my attention and I learned what you think about the whole issue of equality.

I liked this post manley on how you encorpirated the diffrent benifits that they could recive. Also i agree on what you said because they had worked for years more hours and sweat and blood and tears and weren't getting paid jack *****. That is down right outrageous. Another point is that they were able to finally succed in their goal and it was reached with the healp of a few friends and poloticians and family. They saw the other side.

I like how you took a different approach to what we were supposed to post. Your starting sentence was really grabby and actually made me want to comment on this. Pointing out the discrimination against the farm workers was effective. In all, I liked your different view on the situation and I think your post was really good.
